Why is my brand new phone not legible for smart data bundle - Infinix Smart 8

I just bought an Infinix Smart 8 phone with MTN ( redeem your FREE 500MB) instant data valid for 7 days.....
When I dialed the code and pin , it wrote that my Infinix Smart 8 is not legible for the smart data, why?
